Marla Chalnick, Ph.D., LPC is licensed by the state of North Carolina as a Professional
Counselor and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists. She
has been in practice for over 25 years.
After several years in the classroom, Marla moved into community mental health
focusing her energies on developmentally challenged children and their families. She
then went on to complete a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies at the
University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Establishing her private practice in 1995, her goal was and continues to be offering her
clients a vision for change that will guide them to a more harmonious life.
Marla was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1980. She has been an active volunteer
with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and was recently honored with induction
into their Volunteer Hall of Fame.
Marla is an award winning writer, whose poetry credits include a book and publications
in several national literary journals. She has been married for 39 years and has one
grown daughter. Marla loves animals and has a rescued Sheltie and Plott Hound, along
with two cats.
Marla began her career as a special education teacher, working with children with
emotional and behavioral problems. She has a Masters Degree in Special Education from
Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
